Savannah Guthrie recently went under the knife, but she’s already given an encouraging post-surgery update.
The 54-year-old host revealed on the December 19 episode of TODAY that she would be undergoing vocal cord surgery in early 2026, effectively putting her out of action on the NBC morning show “for a couple weeks.”
The surgery, which treated nodules and polyps that developed in her throat after years of working in the broadcast journalism, would be straightforward — but nevertheless, it required Guthrie to take some time off to rest, and, of course, it means she can’t talk until her doctors give her the green light.

While her return to her TODAY family hasn’t been announced yet, Guthrie did share an update on her condition in a January 5 Instagram post, showing the world how quickly she’s moving through the recovery process.

She posted a smiling shot of herself holding up a whiteboard reading, “All good! Thanks for prayers and love!”
Guthrie included the caption, “See you soon!”
Before fans know it, Guthrie will assume her co-anchor position once again, and after her much-needed vocal cord surgery, she’ll be feeling — and sounding — better than ever.

Unsurprisingly, fans and friends flocked to the comments to send their well wishes — including one of her former colleagues.
“Feel better my girl,” wrote Guthrie’s former TODAY co-host Hoda Kotb, who exited the show in January 2025.
Fortunately, Guthrie still has plenty of time to rest up before the biggest assignment of her year (so far): Co-hosting NBC‘s coverage of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony!
Here’s what to know about the 2026 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony
Guthrie will be a big part of the Olympic festivities this February. She and NBC Sports’ Terry Gannon will head up hosting duties for the Opening Ceremony on February 6, but the duo won’t be alone: legendary snowboarder Shaun White will be joining the network’s coverage as well.
And Snoop Dogg, in addition to offering commentary, will be an “honorary coach” for Team USA.
